Product Details

With a bee observation hive, you can encourage the learning and exploration of honey bees up close. You can take a five-frame observation hive nuc box on the road to teach the intricate workings of beehives to students and groups, at farmers' markets or fairgrounds, and the general public.

Traveling with an Observation Hive

If you're traveling with a frame observation hive, make sure to pull one frame up into the viewing area before you leave. When you arrive at your destination, simply remove the shutters and let your audience observe the hive! There's nothing quite like seeing a bee colony up close, and observation hives make it all possible.

Optimal Hive Management

For optimal health of your observation hive, avoid placing the hive in direct sunlight, which can overheat the hive and stress the bees, increasing the risk of a swarm. Regular feeding with sugar syrup is essential, especially when natural forage is insufficient. Ensure the hive is equipped with medium frames, providing adequate space for the queen to lay eggs and sustain the colony's growth.

Secure and Visible Observation Hives

The openings of the observation hive latch securely, so there is no chance of your bees getting out or their hive being disturbed. Showcase your bees at work in all their glory through the clear acrylic viewing pane of the observation hive.

    Needs improvement

by Crystal on Jun 16, 2024

We bought this so we could watch bees as we drank coffee. Well let's say loved seeing them BUT BIG BUT it rained a lot. There is vent holes on the top where the observation part is. So all the rain water went into that part and ran into the hive part. This therefore would wash away any eggs the queen would have laid. This killed off our hive. Think Mann Lake needs to make a fix for this problem.
