Description

Formic Pro™ represents the next generation in formic acid treatments for mites. Composed of all-natural materials, it can be safely used during the honey flow. Unlike Mite Away Quick Strips, Formic Pro™ boasts a longer shelf life and does not require specific temperature conditions for storage. However, it is important to use the strips only when daytime temperatures are between 50° F - 84° F (10° C - 29° C).

To apply, place the strips across the top bars between brood boxes or on top of a single deep hive. Remember to use the recommended safety equipment when handling acid.

Treatment Options:

  • 14-Day Treatment: Use 2 strips for 14 days.
  • 20-Day Treatment: Place the first strip for 10 days, then remove and replace with the second strip for an additional 10 days.

    My favorite Varroa treatment

Posted by Blaine Nay on Jan 12, 2026

Over the past 20 years, I've tried everything else on the market that is approved. FormicPro has replaced Mite Away Quick Strips as my favorite treatment. It has temperature limits that are not a problem. I use this in the spring or early summer when a sugar shake shows a 2% mite infestation. I almost never need another treatment until it cools off in the late summer or fall. I tried the two-pad procedure a couple of times and burned a lot of open brood. But, those colonies recovered quickly. I now prefer the one-pad-at-a-time procedure and don't see brood or queen damage but still have great mite control.

    Formic Pro is very effective

Posted by James on Oct 11, 2025

I'm a 10 year beginner beek in the PNW. This was the worst year for mites I have seen. I typically treat in the fall and in the spring with mite counts ranging between 4 - 12 mites... this year I had 320 mites on two brood frames with a lot of open brood. I also noticed deformed wing virus and a few whiteish bees but nothing else stood out and the capped brood looked okay. I treated with Formic Pro and in two weeks the mite load was twelve. I followed up with a milder treatment and haven't performed a count, yet. One thing to note, I was five weeks late with my fall inspections and I have never used OA. I will install OAE when it stops raining next week... anyhoooo... If you need to kill mites Formic Pro will do the job. Also, I took a picture of the mites but there isn't a feature that allows photos on this platform.
