Small Knots in the hand hold are acceptable, unless in the thin part of hand hold. Black edge knots or planer skips with ½" (1.27 cm) thickness or less can me missing from the top or bottom of the board.

Use 6¼" Frames and 5⅝" Foundation. Nails not included.

What size is right for me?

Did you know the only difference in measurements between 10 frame and 8 frame boxes is the width? 8 frame equipment is narrower than 10 frame, and not always compatible with other 8 frame equipment as dimensions vary slightly by manufacturers. 10 frame equipment offers more space for brood and honey production.

    Unassembled commercial boxes

    by on Jun 16, 2024

I like the larger box joint area for the frame rest, but I had to shave several of the box joint surfaces in order to be able to assemble the boxes. Additionally one side piece has a long crack.

the pilot holes for nails were not centered making it difficult to nail without driving the nail out the side.

    Disappointed

by SHANNON BOSSERMAN on Apr 07, 2024

I've purchased 8 frame hive bodies from 4 different suppliers over the years and they have always been the same size. This is my first time purchasing from Mann Lake and these are 1/4" bigger. Unfortunately I didn't discover this until they were assembled and painted. I put the frames in and there was enough room for 9 frames! I can space them out and use them as honey supers, but I'm annoyed. I checked other bee supply sites and some don't even give specs. Mann Lake does state that there are "variations in size between manufacturers", I suspect because this has been a problem. I probably won't order from Mann Lake again, even though the quality of the materials is good.
