Description

We pride ourselves on the premium materials and milling of our unassembled boxes. All of our lumber is sustainably harvested from FSC certified forests. Made with quality in mind, each Ponderosa Pine plank is sliced precisely for lightweight and lasting durability. Made in the USA.

Our most popular grade. Tight, solid knots, small pitch pockets and small, tight cracks are acceptable for this grade. Imperfections that interfere with the structure and functionality of the box are not accepted. Black knots larger than a quarter dollar are not acceptable. Fingers and rabbet ears must be free of knots. Knots with cracks going all the way through, as long as the knot is solid are acceptable. Small knots in the hand hold are acceptable, unless in the thin part of hand hold. Black edge knots or planer skips with½ (1.27 cm) the thickness or less can be missing from the top or bottom of the board.

Use 9⅛" Frames and 8½" Foundation. Nails not included. Use 7D nails to assemble hive bodies and supers

What size is right for me?

Did you know the only difference in measurements between 10 frame and 8 frame boxes is the width? 8 frame equipment is narrower than 10 frame, and not always compatible with other 8 frame equipment as dimensions vary slightly by manufacturers. 10 frame equipment offers more space for brood and honey production.

I think the Commercial Grade hive boxes are a very good value.

I found the parts to be fairly well cut, easy to assemble.

Crummy fit, requires lots of work to salvage

by KEVIN SELLSTROM on May 01, 2025

I used to trust Mann Lake wooden ware, but last year and this year these boxes have been very poorly made and require a lot of work to shave and cut them enough to fit, followed by puttying the resulting gaps and shaving the bottoms for a flat fit. I inquired about the issues before ordering this year and was assured they'd fixed the issues, but got yet another box of parts that don't fit. I'll shop elsewhere in the future I'm afraid.

    Deep boxes

by Joe Gilbert on Apr 29, 2025

I just received my package of unassembled deep boxes. They don’t fit together. They almost fit together, but every connection between the ends and sides are always just a bit off. No seams fit tightly. None. It comes down to beating the boxes against the floor and hammering, carefully, with a hammer to attempt to fit them together. I’ll never buy boxes from Mann Lake again. Disappointed customer.
