PRODUCT DETAILS

Developed and tested over the course of 10+ years, Norroa™ has proven to be an effective new tool for controlling varroa mites. Norroa™ has shown long-lasting varroa control without harming bees. Multiple years of field trials demonstrate up to 18 weeks of mite control with one treatment. These pouches should be placed on top of frames or the bottom board, leaving a ½-inch space for bees to access the pouch. Norroa™ is powered by vadescana, a new Mode of Action (MoA) for beekeeping. It is designed to specifically target varroa mites and works by stopping the production of mite offspring.

Norroa™ targets a specific protein in varroa mites that ultimately stops their reproduction. No negative impact on colony health or brood production were observed in field trials. Studies have shown no negative impact to larvae, adult bees, or queen, supporting a healthy and productive hive. Norroa™ works to maintain mite levels at the time of application. For best results, apply Norroa™ any time that mite levels are low and honey supers are not on the hive.

Norroa™ contains no harsh acids. It is designed to be safe for non-target organisms, promoting a healthier hive ecosystem. This make Norroa™ great for Integrated Pest Management supporting g sustainable and effective beekeeping.

The pouch application is quick and easy – no measuring or mixing needed. Just place it on top of frames or the bottom board. It can be used at any working temperature, as long as it’s safe to open the hive.

One treatment provides up to 18 weeks of varroa mite control, offering long-term protection and reducing the need for frequent interventions. This extended control period helps beekeepers save time and money by minimizing treatments throughout the season.

Key benefits:

  • Long-Lasting – UP TO 18 WEEKS – Maintained less than three mites per 100 bees threshold for up to 18 weeks in field trials conducted by experienced commercial beekeepers
  • Resistance Management – New mode of action – Novel Mode of Action (MoA) makes it a great tool for resistance management and extending the longevity of active ingredients currently available to beekeepers
  • Effective – No offspring – In lab studies, foundress mites exposed to the active ingredient in Norroa™ had no offspring
  • Flexible – Wide temperature range – It can be applied at any working temperature, as long as it’s safe to open the hive.
  • Boosts Winter Survival – At a rate of up to 75% - Up to 75% winter survival in our field trial, almost twice the winter survival rate compared to leading chemical treatment.
  • Bee Health – Specific to mites – No negative impact observed on larvae, adult bees, or queens
  • Easy to Apply – No measuring or mixing needed – Just peel back the sticker and place pouch on top of frames or the bottom board, leaving a space of ½ inch for bees to access the pouch.

Note: It's important to remove supers before applying Norroa. While it's safe if it gets into the honey, it's only effective if it's stored in the brood chamber. You want to wait about a week after the pouches are empty before putting supers back on the hive.

Timing Guide

Norroa™ Application Timing

Build your honey flow calendar. See exactly when Norroa fits — spring and fall.

When to Apply Norroa™

Norroa can be applied any time honey supers are off and mite levels are below your local economic threshold (typically <3%). Build your honey flow calendar below — the tool will show your available Norroa application windows.

⚠️ Before applying Norroa: Confirm varroa mite levels are below your local economic threshold (e.g., <3% infestation via alcohol wash or sugar roll). Norroa stops mite reproduction — it works best when mite pressure is already manageable.
How Norroa works: Norroa must remain in the brood nest, and open brood needs to be present for an extended period, for it to be effective. This is why supers come off during treatment — it’s a product-efficacy requirement, not a honey-contamination or safety concern. Norroa has a full tolerance exemption in honey and wax.
