Some believe that the 4.9 mm cell impedes the Varroa Mite's ability to reproduce and that it helps to breed a more mite resistant bee. Scientifically, these claims have yet to be confirmed. I have been using the small cell founation for about 8 years and I think that it helps with the mites I do not do mite inspections and I don't lose any more than any bodyelse does or maybe not as many and less work.
I use the small cell hope that it helps with the mits cause I don't use anything in my hives
