Ultra Bee High Protein Pollen Substitute Patties, 10 lb

I bought the product to have on hand. I’ve just gotten into beekeeping. I have two colonies of bees. One is a captured swarm from this spring given me by beekeeper in Wiregrass Beekeeping Club in Dothan, Alabama. Those bees had drawn comb to establish a thriving hive. I have moved them from the Nuc they were in to a 10 frame deep brood. Box. I placed 5 frames of waxed foundation to finish filling box. Mentor told me there wasn’t enough wax on the foundation so I took two and brushed on about a half pound of wax on each. Will open next week to see what progress is being made. I have a fear that they will not store enough honey and pollen to carry them through the winter. So I bought the Ulta Bee High Protein Pollen substitute and fondant to feed them this winter. I also have a hive with a bee package that I bought. The same problem exists with no drawn comb. They are in a five frame nuc box with one frame of honey, brood, nectar and pollen I took from the other group. Have purchased triple waxed foundation and plan on moving this family to 10 frame deep brood box next week. Will use Pollen substitute and Fondant to get them through their first winter.

Great late year feeding option. Because of the SHB we cut the patties into narrow strips. Then place across the top bars.

I live in an area with a severe drought/ dearth going on. I thought I would try these patties. The girls LOVE it! I followed the directions and put one whole patty on top of the super. It was time for my inspection and the girls were 1 week into their patties. Initially the inspector was not a fan of pollen patties in general, but then she saw how well my hives were doing. She encouraged me to keep using the product. One thing she did recommend is breaking the whole patty into credit card size pieces and only add one or two of these at a time. I guess hive beetles love pollen patties too, so you need to keep an eye on them. I bought some beetle blasters and so far I have not had any issues, even after I used the whole paddy.
